Dance your way to a better body!

It’s been 23 years since Patrick Swayze uttered those immortal words: “No one puts baby in a corner” but Dirty Dancing is still hugely popular. Well what better way to get fit, have some fun and make new friends than dancing your way to fitness.

When a friend suggested going to Ceroc classes as a way to get in shape, I thought it was a great idea though I do confess that my expectations were low. I assumed that there would be about 30 women and a handful of dodgy, sleazy blokes stumbling their way around an old hall.

However I was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn’t have to sneak off to the dance instructors’ staff quarters to get funky fit people learning to dance and showing off a few smooth moves.

Ceroc is a saucy combination of salsa and jive that has you and a partner dancing to old classics as well as current chart toppers. And while you may not have heard of it before, it is hugely popular with 70,000 people dancing nationwide every month. That’s a lot of prospective dance partners.

Ceroc is not just fun it can burn up to a staggering 1200 calories in one evening of dance. Also, you don’t need to come with a partner, so it is a great place to pull.

“Many people meet their partner at Ceroc classes,” Ceroc London teacher Val Forsey told me. From the men’s point of view there are women literally lining up to get up close and personal. And ladies, let me tell you, there is nothing sexier than a man who knows how to move.

Ceroc champions show how it’s done!

For those who want to rapidly improve their dancing, there are also weekends away where, as one dancer told me, you do lessons in the afternoon, then dance til dawn before heading back to the chalet for breakfast and a gossip – you can’t get more Dirty Dancing than that.

Well I, for one, am sold and am determined that by this time next year I will be running towards a dance partner ready to be lifted gracefully above his head in the ultimate Patrick Swayze/Jennifer Grey move – well a girl can dream.

Ceroc classes are available throughout Britain and Ireland. To find out more about Ceroc or find a venue in your area visit www.ceroc.com or phone 0208 969 4401.
