Festive Favourites At LEON This Winter

For almost 20 years, LEON has been serving ‘naturally fast food’ to Londoners and beyond.

Having started as a small venture in Carnaby Street back in 2004, the brand now boast branches across Europe and even out to the Canary Islands.

Blood orange porridge to start the day

The concept of fast food with a healthy spin was an alien concept twenty years ago, but LEON has gone from strength to strength and its menu is constantly evolving to offer healthy bites to grab and go. It’s not cheap, but it’s good value, and what we love is how the menu adapts to demand – take the famous meatballs and rice box which now comes as a fully vegan meal but with the same famous Moroccan-style tomato sauce. Served with fresh herbs, toasted seeds, and garlic aioli what’s not to like?!

And as Autumn sets in, LEON’s menu has again been shaped to match our needs – hearty, wholesome and tasty treats to keep us warm and full on blustery days. So we popped in to see what’s on offer, and whether it lives up to the hype.

New offerings available this month include a Spiced Pear, Ginger & Cacao Porridge packed with organic oats, juicy apple and pear compote, and gently spiced with cardamom, cinnamon and vanilla; guaranteed to set you up for the day.

For lunch there’s a Sweet Potato Fritter & Lime Aioli Wrap, and also an Autumn Mezze Salad featuring a warming berbere-spiced butternut squash, sweet potato and beetroot fritters, served with LEON Hummus, seasonal celeriac and kale slaw, and is topped with pink kraut and pomegranate seeds.

Get festive with a spiced chai

And to get us in the festive mood we of course can indulge in a spiced Chai, as well as festive twists such as the best-selling Turkey Christmassaman Curry (pictured above) makes a welcome return. Combining
Christmas favourites including turkey, roasted potatoes and carrots, with coconut milk, galangal
and cardamom, ginger and lemongrass, and finished with a good sprinkling of crispy
onions, it’s a Boxing day curry come early!

But steering away from traditional turkey is just as good an idea, and plant-based options are always aplenty at LEON. We can’t recommend highly enough the Bauble & Squeak grilled wrap with Sage Mayo, best enjoyed with a baked fritter side. It’s bubble & squeak at its Christmassy peak, it also just happens to be vegan!

After almost a decade chasing ambulances, and celebrities, for Fleet Street's finest, Emily has taken it down a gear and settled for a (slightly!) slower pace of life in the suburbs. With a love of cheese and fine wine, Emily is more likely to be found chasing her toddlers round Kew Gardens than sipping champagne at a showbiz launch nowadays, or grabbing an hour out of her hectic freelancer's life to chill out in a spa while hubby holds the babies. If only!
