Five Free Things To Do In London
The sun is out which makes us all happier and more optimistic but the sun can’t change the fact that the financial crisis is far from over and pennies in our pockets may be a little tighter at the moment. It is time to prioritise and enjoy some free fun activities in the capital and save your hard earned cash for some Dior sunglasses and that gorgeous Reiss dress so you look fabulous while out and about!
1. Free theatre productions
Why not head to the Southbank after work to enjoy a free show in The Scoop at More London. Productions include Iphigenia, the opera Troy Boy and a contemporary retelling of The Canterbury Tales. From 6.30pm during summer at The Scoop next to City Hall, see More London for further details.
2. Check out art and antiquities
London has some of the best art galleries and museums in the world and aside from special exhibitions, the majority of these are free to go to (though a donation is appreciated). So whether you interests lie in modern art (the Tate Modern), British art, (The Tate Britain), Antiquities (The British Museum), or any other of the top museums (Science Museum, National Gallery, V&A, National Portrait Gallery, National History Museum), these are great places to spend a few hours and learn something too!
3. Be a tourist
When was the last time you saw the changing of the guard? Well is you’re a hardened Londoner it was either as a child, when you first got to London or never! Head to Buckingham Palace as everyday during the summer the Queen’s Guard do their traditional changing of the guard at 11.30am.
4. Head to a free festival
The London Green fair is on in Regents Park this weekend (12pm – 7pm). It features world music, ethical fashion shows and a huge children’s play area where kids can make the most of the great sunny weather. Go to their website, www.londongreenfair.org, for further information.
5. Picnic in the park
London has the a lot of green spaces for a large, urban capital city and in this weather you can truly make the most of them. Aside from packing a delectable picnic basket and your Cath Kidston picnic blanket think about taking a badminton, boules or even croquet set for some added fun.
