Durdle Door

Foreign holidays might be back on the agenda for some, but staycations are still set to be popular this summer. For many, that means checking out what’s right on their doorstep for the very first time.

According to a new study, Stonehenge, Loch Ness, the Tower of London and Durdle Door are among a list of places Brits plan to visit for the very first time this summer.

A poll commissioned by Jurys Inn and Leonardo Hotels found that nearly two thirds of Britons (63%) are planning to holiday in the UK this year, with four in ten (38%) planning to visit famous parts of the country they have never seen before.

StonehengeTop of the list of places people plan to visit for the first time are Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, Brighton Beach, the Lake District and Padstow in Cornwall.

Also high on the list are the Yorkshire Dales, Jersey, Stonehenge, The Tower of London, Durdle Door and Snowdonia.

When asked why they plan to holiday in the UK this summer, 43% of respondents said they feel safer staying on home turf instead of going abroad, while 35% said there is no where more beautiful than Britain in the summer.

Nearly two thirds (65%) said enjoying fish and chips eaten out of newspaper was the perfect ingredient for a traditional British summer holiday, while 40% said sitting in a sunny beer garden in the countryside.

Tower of LondonSuzanne Cannon, Group Marketing Manager of Jurys Inn and Leonardo Hotels who commissioned the study said: “It appears that the nation is feeling positive and even looking forward to a British break this year.

“It’s no surprise really as the UK is home to some beautiful sights and plenty of ‘bucket list’ activities that the whole family can enjoy.”
