Is This Brighton’s Most Instagrammable Hotel?

From the quaint Laines to the famous Palace Pier, Brighton is arguably one of Britain’s most instagrammable seaside towns. History, hipsters, high end and cutting edge, Brighton has it all.

But where to stay while exploring the city? The Square Townhouse in the heart of the vibrant Kemp Town has it all.

Overlooking New Steine gardens and with sea views, the Square Townhouse is ideally located

Located on New Steine, a square built around beautiful communal gardens, and just a beach pebble’s throw from the seafront, The Square Townhouse is both perfectly placed for experiencing all of Brighton’s buzzing nightlife, and tucked away enough for a peaceful night’s sleep.

Art deco and opulence at every turn

Opulence and chic are the name of the game at this boutique hotel overlooking the seafront in the aforementioned Kemptown. With a glam neon dining room that transforms into a cocktail bar in the evening, not an inch of this building has been missed when it comes to decadent décor and style.

It’s no wonder The Square has already established itself as arguably the most instagrammable hotel in Brighton.

Drinking and dining for kings, and queens

Sitting in the sunny breakfast room, staring across the gardens at the waves lapping up the Sussex shoreline, the clientele at the boutique hotel when we visited was distinctly split into two camps. Soaking up the rays by the window, ordering freshly blended smoothies and feasting on avocado smash were the runners, eagerly anticipating the start-gun for that morning’s Brighton Marathon.

On the other side, seeking shade and solace, were the survivors of last night’s revelry. Brighton has a nightlife to suit everyone and anyone, and the survivors had certainly earned their badges. Coffee and a full English were on the cards here, and all were devoured with enthusiasm. Ingredients are fresh, locally sourced where possible, and the team are adaptable, to say the least, when it comes to specific requests (wanna swap tofu for cheese? No problem. Extra spinach in your ‘morning after’ smoothie? Coming right up.)

Rooms with comfort and style

But now for the rooms… Take a plunge in the pool-like free-standing bath in the Bubble Room, admire the art deco sculptures and furnishings that fill the rooms, or pop into the pamper room for a cheeky massage. Whatever you do at The Square Townhouse, and wherever you do it, you’ll have the perfect backdrop for a dazzling Insta post.

Brighton's Square Townhouse hotel bedroom

There is a variety of rooms on offer to suit varied budgets. Just one thing applies to all – chic, swish décor and really comfortable beds! We stayed in the penthouse Bubble Room, with views from the front window over the sea, and from the balcony at the back down to the Brighton Pavilion and across the city skyline. The bathrooms are bright and light, and the finishing touches in the room include local art, mirrors everywhere, and flamboyant features. The freestanding bath with a superb view of the huuuuuuge LED TV was a luxurious extra that was not wasted.

Brighton's Square Townhouse hotel bar

The bar at The Square Townhouse, which hosts a fantastic drag cabaret most Saturday nights as well as other colourful and pic-ready events, is open to visitors as well as guests. They serve a variety of cocktails and mocktails, and service is friendly and welcoming. There is a quieter side by the bar, or dive into a celebration of camp fun in the cabaret room.

Bright, colourful, flamboyant yet chic, The Square Townhouse really does have everything you need if you’re looking for a Five Star stay in Brighton. It is small enough to feel personal, and staff are happy to accommodate individual requests, but is large enough to allow anonymity where required. You can slope up to your room for some privacy, or join the party downstairs. Everyone is welcome.
