Trends From London Fashion Week SS15
Once again London Fashion Week put on a fabulous show with variety, edginess and glamour. There were some show-stopping looks that are sure to be seen on celebrities soon, from Tom Ford, Temperley and Matthew Williamson to Giles, Julien Macdonald, Burberry and David Koma.
There were far more flats than heels on the models meaning we can all give our feet a rest for another year and hair was less coiffed but we saw a return of the centre parting, the ponytail and rough dried natural hair. Generally make-up was soft and natural with Marcos Gurgel, one of the make-up artists at Temperley, telling Belle About Town that the make-up trends for SS15 were: “beautiful skin, cream blushers, well-blended and lots of highlighter.” He added: “bold brows are back too but not too groomed and glossy clean eyes will also be making an appearance!”
Here are our top picks of the fashion trends that will making it big next Spring from the London catwalks…
Chiffon
Sheer was across all the runways in London and although the garments hitting our shops next season will be a little less risqué, there will still be loads of soft, sheer chiffon on offer. The best examples for us were from TopShop Unique, Daks, Toga, Burberry, Simone Rocha, Christopher Kane, Richard Nicholls and Antonio Berardi.
Aquatic blues
It was lovely to see these aquatic tones in the shows from teal to turquoise, these are perfect for providing a holiday feel. Sibling, Pringles of Scotland, Meadham Kirchhoff, Jonathan Saunders, Joao Melo Costa, Holly Fulton and Busardi all integrated this relaxing colour.
Florals
Florals are always popular in the spring and this year was no different providing a variety of prints, from large to small, abstract to literal, and in a cascade of colours. Gorgeous examples could be seen at Vivienne Westwood, Antonio Berardi, Simone Rocha, Matthew Williamson, Marchesa, Anna Sui, House of Holland, and Erdem.
Metallics
These sweet-wrapper inspired outfits added sparkle to the runway from burnished orange and gold to lime green, blue and silver, both in leather and fabric. They will see a shimmer added to evening wear next year. These stunning creations are from Tom Ford, Giles, Emilio de la Morena, Felder Felder, Palmer Harding, Osman and Jonathan Saunders.
All White
Also seen on the catwalks of New York, all white was strong is London too. Mary Katrantzou, Julien Macdonald, Emilia Wickstead, Daniela Barros, Bernard Chandran and Amanda Wakeley all went for loads of white.
Maxi length
The maxi was still in full flow with longer lengths prominent on the London catwalks. Whether dresses or skirts, think ankle skimming as was seen at Erdem, Jasper Conran, Issa, Marchesa, Basharatyan, Barbara Casasola and Amanda Wakeley.
Earthy Browns
Brown is often seen as a lack-lustre colour but from chocolate and mocha to latte, the designers showing at London Fashion Week showed that it can also look very sophisticated. We loved it at Vivienne Westwood, Tom Ford, Paul Smith, Joseph, Jonathan Saunders and Jasper Conran.
