Roar-some Feasting at Tamarind Tiger

Tamarind Tiger is London’s first Indian grab-and-go restaurant.

The restaurant, on Baker Street, prides itself in sourcing traditional ingredients, including its famous Sona Masoori brown rice that comes from the southern Indian states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.

Even the chais are sourced from some of the finest tea estates in India. All this means the food and drinks are flavourful, authentic and most importantly delicious.

Before you even step foot inside the restaurant, you are greeted by the fragrant scent of Indian food lingering on the street. It’s so inviting that you can’t help but follow the trail into Tamarind Tiger.

Inside the décor is very cool and contemporary and boasts sleek wooden tables, plush orange seats and a unique street-style mural of a tiger.

The staff are friendly and manage to serve everyone quickly. The famous Tiger Bowls come in six delicious flavour combinations and popular options include a vegan chickpea curry with quinoa and cumin yoghurt as well as a mango chicken curry bowl. I opted for the masala beef meatballs – which was warm, flavourful and cooked to perfection.

All the sides are baked and not fried, including the gunpowder wedges, which are coated in a flavourful south India masala, and the lamb samosas, which are filled with spicy meat wrapped in a paper-thin pastry.

The Tiffin Boxes are entirely customisable. Simply select a base from quinoa, rice, pao or salad leaves. Then add one of five mains ranging from cauli tikka to mint chicken. Next add two vegan or veggie sides and top up with a sauce of your choice.

The warming flavours of Tamarind Tiger aren’t for the food only, as the drinks are top notch too. The restaurant’s Chai Bar offers a wide selection of black and green chais. A must try is the cinnamon hot chocolate and the famous bright-pink rose chia falooda. Both are sweet and aromatic.
