New Flea Market For London Fashionistas
There is nothing like finding a fabulous vintage item at a flea market in Paris, or unique homewares bartered for at the bazaar in Istanbul or coming back from New York with a great new dress from an up-and-coming designer who you spotted at the trendy weekend markets. While London has many markets, they have all become a little too uninspiring. Camden is great if you are under 21 while Notting Hill is so over run by tourists at the weekend that one avoids it all costs. Luckily, for one day only, this Sunday there will be a new market in town.
Artisans, artists, fashion designers, jewellery designers, filmmakers and musicians will come together to take part in a unique new event in the heart of London. Soho Flea Market will bring together London’s up and coming creative talent, all in support of HIV and sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust.
The historic length and breadth of Dean Street will be closed to traffic and specifically curated ‘creative market stalls’ will exhibit and sell directly to the public.
Flaunting the spirit of fun and innovation, it promises to be a highly entertaining event in a brilliant iconic location. stall holders include acclaimed ceramics designer, Lou Rota; luxury organic skincare brand, Skin Bistro; recycled and organic clothing designer, Space1a Design; Spanish artists in London, SAL, stylish leather bags and accessories, Nette Leather Goods; vintage designs to die for, Syd & Mallory; and unique and bespoke knitted covered furniture maker, Melanie Porter.
An outdoor stage will play host to new and emerging music and comedy acts including Sam Gray, Hudson Taylor, Akayzia, comedian Paul T Eyres and actor and singer Julian Ovenden who rose to fame playing Andrew Foyle on ITV’s Foyle’s War.
Restaurants and bars in and around Dean Street will also be supporting the Soho Flea Market, with many hosting special events including art exhibitions, fashion shows and live music including fantastic artists Chloe Cheese, Alan Cox and John White exhibiting at The French House exclusively for Soho Flea Market.
‘This vibrant and exciting concept is a fantastic addition to Soho,’ Fawn James of Soho Estates says. ‘Soho is about independent and talented creative minds and businesses and City Showcase: Soho Flea Market is the perfect event to showcase the best of what we have to offer to the world.’
The Soho Flea Market is a unique and glamorous must-go day out in London that we hope will become a more regular event – after all, us London Belles must have markets that are just for us fashionistas in the know!
City Showcase: Soho Flea Market, Dean St, Soho, London, Sunday 27th May 2012, 12 – 8pm.
