Mad Hatters and Make-up

The royal wedding certainly had us all talking about hats and fascinators but with wedding season just starting and Ascot on the horizon, you can ensure that you are the only one in your hat by creating a unique design yourself. Award-winning milliner Katherine Elizabeth hosts Mad Hatter Couture parties where you and your friends can become headwear designers for an evening. You will learn tricks of the trade from Katherine herself who opens up the couture world of millinery and helps you to make sumptuous bespoke fascinators that you keep at the end of the evening.

With champagne flowing and canapes to keep our stomachs from rumbling we took our places at a long table covered in exotic feathers and beads, butterflies and birds, netting and ribbons. Just the amount of different trims was overwhelming and it was hard to know where to begin. Luckily Katherine gave us a demonstration of how to work with the different trims and how to create the structural feather display seen on couture hats. Then it was time to get creative.

We tried different combinations of feathers and beading while supping bubbly and when we were happy it was time to start sewing. But don’t panic if you are not competent with a needle and thread, Katherine and her team are on hand to  help you get the perfect finish.

And the results were stunning – each of the girls at the table created a magnificent and unique fascinator that is sure to get loads of complementary comments.

This is such a fun few hours together that would be perfect for an upmarket hen do, a girly get together in preparation for Ascot or even a corporate team bonding day.

Prices start from £38 per person and can be held at your choice of venue form Katherine’s studio to your office or a local wine bar. For further information call 020 7735 1995 or visit Katherine’s website www.katherineelizabethhats.com.
