Going for a Chinese usually means a take-away with noodles and fried rice or a trip to Soho for dim sum.

Think Chinese goods and it’s probably cheap, crude, mass-produced merchandise that springs to mind.

Redefining ‘Made in China’

Think again.  A pop-up Chinese Art of Living lifestyle brand exhibition aims to explode that stereotype.

Pop into London’s Covent Garden between now and next Monday, November 26, and you’ll discover a very different world.

From craft beer (tea flavoured, of course) to tea sets, exquisite jewellery to pretty porcelain, designer lighting and sunglasses to make-up boxes and book marks, hand-painted fabrics to delicate embroidery it showcases colourful and stylish goodies.

The organisers want to redefine the old concept of Made in China with classier commodities, craft heritage and a uniquely Chinese aesthetic from leading brands. The participating brands are mainly from mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, including those that have exhibited at top international shows such as the MilanTriennale, as well as influential and emerging designer brands.

The products on display would fit more happily into Harvey Nichols and Liberty than Primark.  And they can be bought in time for Christmas.

There are also workshops on Chinese mixology, afternoon tea and aromatherapy in the showroom at 9 Shorts Garden, London WC2H 9AT.
