Sing Your Way Into The Weekend With Massaoke!
Where would you find Channel 4 newsreader Jon Snow singing Parklife, grown men hugging each other while belting out power ballads and comedian Al Murray banging out a drum solo?
The answer is Friday I’m In Love, the UK’s original and best singalong club night. The idea is simple: A brilliant live band plays pop, indie and rock anthems and the crowd sings along guided by lyrics projected on large screens. There’s no dreaded karaoke spotlight here, this is Massaoke where everyone sings together.
The result is an extraordinary communal experience more akin to a religious happening than a club night, where, instead of hymns, the congregation roars out classic hits from Erasure to Bonnie Tyler through Queen and Oasis.
As well as playing to sell-out crowds at its monthly London club night at The Phoenix, in Oxford Circus, FiiL spreads singalong magic to music venues and festival crowds across the UK.
Since it was launched in the basement of a London pub by a group of friends in 2011, FiiL has played to sellout audiences during its Edinburgh Festival residency, headlined T In The Park’s Transmission Stage, launched a sister FiiL Club in Glasgow and played sing-along sets to 1000-strong crowds at famous London music venue, Koko.
Do you remember singing along to your favourite records when you first fell in love with music, reading the lyrics from an album sleeve? Friday I’m In Love has the same pure principal at it’s heart, only you are not alone in your bedroom, singing into a hair brush, you are in a room full of bouncing, music-loving kindred spirits all singing as one.
Every song played by the brilliant FiiL house band has been debated and picked over until to create a set filled with sold gold pop, indie or rock anthems. You’ll belt out old favourites as well as forgotten musical gems that’ll have you throwing your arms around complete strangers with the shear joy of being reacquainted with an old love.
The next 80s Massaoke promises to be jam-packed with fun tunes plus a few surprises… Join the rest of the crowd as the amazing FiiL house band plays two sets packed with surefire hits from the decade that brought us the New Romantics, Hair Metal and Synth Pop.
