Sarkozy & Bruni’s Summer Rosé Pop-Up, Covent Garden

Summer sunset in the heart of London.  What’s better than sipping a very summery chilled rosé from Nicholas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni’s chateau?

This whiter shade of palest dry wine is also perfect when mixed with sorbet.

And those with a sweet tooth  –  count me in  –  may savour the delights of a delectable macaron (not to be confused with another French president M. Macron) flavoured with just a hint of rosé.

We completed all three welcome challenges at the London launch of a collaboration of macron masters Mason Radulae and wine wizards Château d’Estoublon that creates a collection of macarons, sorbets, Roseblood Rosé, cocktails, and an afternoon tea at a pretty little pop up terrace restaurant in Covent Garden Market.

What’s in a name?

Now the only argument I have with this nectar is it’s name.

RoseBLOOD? Really? Of all the liquids it doesn’t resemble is blood. Bulls Blood, that robust red wine from Hungary, deserves its name, but this subtle gentle rosé does not.

How about rosetint, rosesoft, rosepetal, roselush, roseglow, rosebud, rose-elixir? But hey, I’m not a brand manager.

The nearest we got to a bloody incident as we sampled our Roseblood was the knife juggling busker below. Fortunately not a drop was spilt to put us off our canapés and macarons.

And don’t be put off by the Parisian upscale bakery’s bonkers on-line ad: ‘Maison Ladurée – Buy Macarons Online.

‘Share your joyless with our iconic hamper to personnalised [sic] with Laduré.’

Up until September 30 visitors to the pop up can enjoy the elegant Provence rosé created by Carla Bruni and Nicolas Sarkozy of Château D’Estoublon with a slap-up afternoon tea for £42. The deal includes finger sandwiches of salmon and cream cheese, cucumber, mint; pastries; scones with jam and clotted cream; macarons; home-made hot chocolate, selection of teas, coffee.

So, let’s raise our glasses and teacups and prepare for an evening of Traviata or The Marriage of Figaro at  nearby Royal Opera House.

 Salut!
