Rooftop Sunsets & Movies This London Summer

Hiding indoors in the summer is a sin. Summer is for soaking up the sun rays, sipping cocktails and shouting from the rooftops: ‘Bring me fun, London!’

In fact, you can do all this and watch a movie too. Rooftop Film Club is here to upgrade your summer with the ultimate open-air film experience.

I visited one of their London’s locations in Stratford. Roof East is a spacious rooftop bar on the 8th floor, buzzing with energy, and apart from food, drinks and music it provides game fun too, if you feel like Crazy Golf.

I walked a little further and stepped into the outdoor cinema zone. From the popcorn hut I collected my set of wireless headphones, a blanket and a mix of sweet and salty popcorn.

Passing a cute sign ‘Love, Peace and Great Film’ I sank into a comfy deckchair. I arrived early to pick a strategic sitting spot.

Whilst I munched on popcorn, with Roof East bar’s music blasting around, I revelled in panoramic views and admired the Olympic Park’s Orbit Tower sculpture.

I could order drinks right from my deckchair so I did just that and my lazy self thanked me.

The movie, Sound of Metal, started right on time, I switched my wireless headphones on and from that moment I was one with the movie.

Rooftop Film Club experience is like socialising but also immersing yourself in a private movie viewing at the same time. My favourite part? I don’t have to listen to any crunchy popcorn-eating noise. Hallelujah, praise be! I want this all the time, please.

There is something about watching the movie alfresco, under the stars, with a gentle summer breeze in your face. Even though I opted for a new release movie, Rooftop Film Club has got you covered with a handpicked curation of cults and classics too.

Rooftop Film Club started as a single rooftop in London’s Shoreditch in 2011 and has now expanded globally with three venues in the UK and five venues in LA, NYC, San Diego, and Houston. Rooftop Film Club, Peckham in London, sits adjacent to Bussey Rooftop Bar. Rooftop Film Club has also temporarily reinvented themselves, hosting The Drive In Film Club at Alexandra Palace, Brent Cross Shopping Centre and Sandown Racecourse for 2021.

After leaving the corporate world behind, she could be found at the photo shoots as a make-up artist or in the recording studios as voice-over artist. These days she uses her make-up artist background to talk and write mostly about her favourite subject: Beauty. Her other favourite subjects are gender equality, every colour ever invented, portrait artists, photography, Marvel, red wine and the importance of humour.
