Plant-Based Pizza Joy at Purezza

Purezza vegan pizza restaurant

As someone who doesn’t eat meat or dairy, I tend to opt for vegan dishes when eating out. Lucky for me and all the other herbivores, things have moved forward and plant-based eating no longer consists of pulses and spinach leaves alone, and gone also are the disapproving eyerolls from the waiters.

So a friend and I ventured to Camden Town in London for some plant-based pizza, and let me assure you, it was amongst the best I’ve ever eaten. Vegan (or not) and love pizza? Purezza is the place for you.

Found in the heart of Camden, a short walk from Camden Town tube station, Purezza is surrounded by a gaggle of other vegan restaurants and pizza parlours.

We arrived for an early dinner and the restaurant filled up very quickly. It was decked out all Christmassy and staff were friendly and welcoming, personable and attentive.

Sourcing fresh produce locally and only in required quantities, turning cooking oil into biodiesel, using renewable energy and saying no to single use plastic, Purezza is at the forefront of sustainable dining. The brand cares about the planet, but perhaps not so much about my waist.

Olives and a selection of starters at Purezza vegan pizza restaurant

Purezza serves vegan dishes with plenty of gluten free options – pizzas, small plates to share and tasty desserts, with a wide range of drinks too.

We shared a few small plates, including very tasty Mac & Cheese, which was hard to believe was actually vegan. We also had the Slow-Baked Meatballs, another winner and just the perfect choice for a cold rainy evening. The Caesar Salad was not great …the ch’cken topping sadly dry and tasteless, but the harissa corn was pretty good; however it would have been better without the chicken substitute.

We ordered one pizza to share – a rookie mistake. On reflection I wished we had more of that delicious finger licking goodness or had given in to temptation and ordered that second pizza! We practically inhaled the Black Truffle pizza – with its black truffle base, Mozzarella, Shamembert, wild mushrooms and parsley. Delicious.

We finished the evening with a Brownie and a slice of a New York Cheesecake – both incredibly tasty and indulgent.

Don’t let the special Christmas menu pass you by, it’s not every day you can have Mince Pie Doughballs after all! Purezza also welcomes and caters for our furry friends and have a special Dog Menu on offer too.

Purezza Camden is “the largest vegan restaurant in the UK” and no wonder it won the “Best Vegan Restaurant/ Café” at the Vegfest UK Awards in 2018, its pizza is worth the extra pound or two…
