Jason Atherton Launches Spring Menu

Jason Atherton needs no introduction to the culinary crowds. The world-renowned chef and restaurateur launched his own network of restaurants – “The Social Company” back in 2010, then opened his first Mayfair restaurant – “Pollen Street Social” in 2011. His enterprise grew quickly and he brought a number of restaurants to London and earned himself a few Michelin stars along the way too; with some highly-acclaimed restaurants around the world, including in Dubai and Singapore.

I will never forget when I first stepped a foot in to “Little Social” in London’s Soho… I was really impressed with the delicious food, picture-perfect presentation and impeccable service, with welcoming, attentive and friendly staff. I have returned a few times and have always experienced the same level of service, not just there but also at the “Pollen Street Social”, “Social Eating House” and “The Blind Pig”.

And my recent visit to Berners Tavern was just as impressive. Adjacent to the London EDITION Hotel in Fitzrovia, Berners Tavern is another of Jason Atherton’s award-winning restaurants, headed by his executive chef Andrei Poptelecan.

Berners Tavern is simply beautiful…with its sky-high ceiling and stunning décor – sophisticated, rich and opulent, art covering every inch of the walls, flower foliage bringing a hint of the season to the experience, and two large custom bronze chandeliers hanging from the ceiling (inspired by Grand Central Station in New York City).

We were invited to sample Atherton’s new Spring Menu, with a room full of other eager diners, serenaded by a small orchestra positioned on the balcony overlooking the restaurant, who magnificently put a classical spin on some popular tunes.

Drinks were free-flowing and canapes showcasing the new menu, were being served generously. We feasted on some delicious dishes from the new menu, including Orkney scallop crudo, citrus granite, poached rhubarb, apple, jalapenos emulsion, Colchester crab, lemon pure, compressed cucumber, white Japanese radish, xo sauce, Berners Tavern mac and cheese and a raw vegetable crudité, chickpea and harissa hummus, black olive crumble, toasted sourdough bread.

My mouth is watering just recalling all of the exquisite flavours and combinations, and I can’t wait to enjoy them again.

With effortless class and sophistication Jason and the Berners Tavern team put on a wonderful evening…. with the perfect balance of decadence alongside an accessible and warm welcome.

Jason Atherton and his team clearly know that the way to customers’ heart and stomach is via all of the senses. There is an exemplary consistency when it comes to Atherton’s restaurants and no doubt that is what keeps diners returning. And I too, will definitely be back!
