Birdies Crazy Golf at Battersea Power Station

If your kids are anything like mine they need to be exercised about as much as pedigree racehorses, and if you fail to get them out into the fresh air they are clawing at each other like caged tigers by bedtime.

Clearing up the aftermath of my sons’ energetic water fight at the end of a long day is nobody’s idea of fun, but when the great British weather is not playing ball, keeping kids active is yet another headache none of us need.

Enter the clever folk down at Birdies, an imaginative indoor crazy golf course in the newly developed Battersea Power Station.

I managed to drag my twin boys Felix and Harry away from their Xbox on yet another wet and windy Sunday afternoon and discovered a great way for them to bash a ball about without covering my carpet in muddy footprints, or risking a case of trench foot.

The nine hole course is surprisingly tricky at times but we took our time and eventually we all overcame even the most challenging obstacles.

And best of all for any parent who has endured the hell that is the indoor play centre, there is a cocktail bar with expert mixologists on hand to take the edge off even the most frayed nerves.

The Sweet Spot bar is very sensibly positioned between holes four and five, which was pretty much exactly the moment the scores were even, and twins were at their most competitive.

While I sipped on a particularly delicious espresso waffle martini (yes, that’s basically a boozy pudding and what’s not to love about that?) the boys tucked into a selection of Yakitori meat skewers from a surprisingly inventive menu of Asian and Mexican street food.

There is also an alcoholic chocolate fountain – I know – and various concoctions involving calming CBD essence. These people clearly understand their clientele.

And for that I am grateful. Particularly as it meant the bathroom floor stayed dry – at least for that night.

As mum to a pair of cheeky twin boys, Felix and Harry, Nadia is mostly very tired. And sometimes she’s grumpy and very tired, but that doesn’t stop her attempting to have a life beyond sterilising and pureeing, even if that means she has been spotted strolling through the Grazia office with a Cheerio stuck to her bottom, or accessorising her fabulous Vivienne Westwood vintage with a smear of dried porridge. She loves lounging about in the sunshine with a cocktail (those were the days) and hates smug yummy mummy types offering their unwanted opinions on her sons’ snacks, schooling and snot.
