Spring may have sprung but we’re still in need of more flora and fauna here at Belle towers so we decided to head to the London Marriott Hotel Park Lane for a ‘Botanical Afternoon Tea’ experience.

What better way to combine two of the things we most adore – flowers and cakes.

During the afternoon we eagerly devoured a selection botanical-themed sweet and savoury delights served on a stylish three-tiered stand.

Afternoon Tea is held in the hotel’s signature restaurant Lanes of London.

With its art deco inspired lights, stylish mirrors, and plush chairs the whole venues oozes sophistication and glamour – making it the perfect backdrop for an afternoon’s respite from shopping the boutiques of Mayfair.

Afternoon tea treats created to cater for all dietary requirements at Lanes of London

Settled into our seats,  we enjoyed a selection of finger sandwiches featuring smoked salmon, turkey with celery, apple and mizuna, alongside traditional choices like egg as well as comte and piccalilli – basically a posh cheese and pickle sandwich.

To complement the sandwiches we were presented with an array of pastries including a caramel apple popcorn cone and a chocolate damson gingerbread. All creations were either decorated  with real flowers or adorned with a leaf-shaped chocolate garnish.

There was no shortage of the classics, either, with delicious freshly-baked lavender and raisin scones served with lashings of clotted cream and blackberry and juniper jam.

Nothing is too much trouble for staff and everyone works to ensure visitors feel welcome. We were assured that items can be adapted to suit any dietary requirement. So if you want a vegetarian option or no alcohol, then simply let your server know.

The whole serving is accompanied by an incredible selection of floral teas from the Jing tea menu.

The ‘botanical’ element is what makes this an experience. The floral theme is most evident in the array of floral teas – be sure to try the Flowering Tea and watch the flower petals open up and infuse into the water.
