Badiani Brings Authentic Gelateria to Town

It is now easier to enjoy delicious gelato without jet setting to Italy because Badiani has officially opened its doors in White City, London and Windsor.

Both branches serve up delicious gelatos, freshly ground coffee and pastries. White City is Badiani’s biggest gelateria to date and great for shoppers as it is close to Westfield Shopping Centre. The one in Windsor is a stone’s throw away from Windsor Castle and is the perfect spot to cool down after sightseeing in the historical town.

And now, a cool little language lesson…

Many believe that gelato is the Italian word for ice cream, but the truth is ice cream and gelato are made very differently. Gelato has a creamier texture and the ingredients are mixed more slowly to avoid creating air bubbles and ice particles. Also, gelato only uses natural sources for its flavours and is served less cold than ice cream. This allows the flavours to bloom more easily in your mouth. Best of all, you can enjoy gelato without feeling guilty as it has less fat content than ice cream!

Badiani’s journey goes all the way back to 1932 when Idilio Badiani opened a gelateria in the heart of Florence. In 1993, the Pomposi family took over and gave Badiani its wings to fly worldwide!

What’s your flavour?

Badiani have taken the simplest of ingredients, such as cream, sugar and eggs, and elevated them into unforgettable flavours. There are so many flavours on offer, that it is hard to pick what to choose. I managed to try many flavours during my visit this month and I would personally recommend DragNFruit. This is from their sorbet collection, which is 100 per cent vegan and includes the freshest seasonal fruits. It tastes like a cool, fruity, refreshing cocktail ! For those with more sophisticated tastebuds, then try the pistachio flavour. But if chocolate is your thing, then opt for the La Dolcevita. This was awarded the best flavour at the 2015 Gelato Festival. This delicious flavour combines layers of cocoa and Piedmont hazelnut sauce and was a huge hit with my children!

Build your own dessert:

You can enjoy the gelato flavours by themselves or use them as a base to create gelato cakes, cookies and pinguinos. If you aren’t in the mood for just gelato, then I’d definitely recommend the gourmet crepes. These are warm, light and melt in the mouth! The gelato can also be paired with waffles, which are thick, warm and soft!

Attention to details is everything at the brightly decorated Badianis, and the venues also include a children’s craft corner where little ones can colour away, allowing parents to eat their gelato in peace!

It is also good to know that all their packaging used is made of recycled, biodegradable or compostable materials. So, next time you are out shopping or sightseeing, then keep an eye out for your nearest Badiani store. You won’t have to travel far to find one because there are now 14 in and around London.
