Afternoon Tea At The Strand Dining Rooms
Who doesn’t love afternoon tea? Something of an essential in London – delicious cakes, delectable sandwiches and gorgeous scones are a part of the quintessentially English experience.
But while many are on offer, few are up to the standard our Edwardian ancestors would have enjoyed. Enter The Strand Dining Rooms, a new dining experience which offers a variety of culinary delights from morning to evening, and especially in the afternoon! If you haven’t tried them yet then expect gorgeous brunches, lazy Sunday lunches and a lip smackingly good afternoon tea, all in one of the newest restaurants in our brilliant, bustling city.
The venue is quite unique, a great Gatsby style brasserie that feels a bit like stepping back in time to the 1920’s. It took hundreds of hands more than six months to construct, and you can tell. The afternoon tea menu itself is traditional and tempting, consisting of a glass of champagne alongside a trio of sandwiches, egg mayonnaise, hock ham and salmon. Each is fresh, fluffy and delicious.
The cakes are next for the taking. The first cakes my companion and I tasted were the scones, which were mouthwateringly good alongside the jam and clotted cream accompaniments. We were also served a blueberry cupcake, a slice of ginger cake with caramel, and a raspberry custard tart. Enough to leave you feeling like you needn’t eat again for a week!
All puddings are made on site by the Dining Rooms’ expert in-house pâtissier. The result is a gorgeous scent of freshly baked desserts which wafted throughout the restaurant. All the cakes were divine, however my favourite was the ginger cake with cream and caramel, the flavour was a unique mix of sweet and spice.
The Strand Dining Rooms is a great restaurant in an ideal location, just off Trafalgar Square and a stones throw from Covent Garden, with excellent service and food. Perfect for a girlie afternoon tea or a treat for the parents.
And always remember Belles, when they ask if you would like another glass of their exquisite champagne, the answer is always yes!
