Trampolining: 2020’s Hottest Fitness Trend?

#Jump2020 trampolining could be the fastest-growing fitness trend this year

Looking for a new way to keep fit in the New Year? One that doesn’t mean hours in the gym? Trampolining could be the answer for you! Sweeping the nation as the best form of family-fitness, the rise in popularity of the trampoline park over the past five years has been phenomenal.

I first took my kids to our local trampoline park about two years ago. I sat and watched as they squealed with delight and tumbled across the beds, bouncing weightlessly and grinning from ear to ear. It looked fun, so the next time we went I didn’t sit on the sidelines, I joined in. Now we go regularly and it’s become a real favourite family bonding activity. They jump, I jump, they laugh, I hold onto my boobs for fear of giving myself black eyes. It’s hilarious. It also builds up the steps and registers as exercise on my FitBit – win/win eh?

Then I heard about exercise classes on trampolines and signed up for a January course at my local trampoline centre.

Jo Edwards has devised a comprehensive fitness schedule for Rush UK trampoline parks

But how good is trampolining for you? And what can it help with? I decided to find out more…

Jo Edwards is Director of Fitness at Rush UK Trampoline Parks. She told me why trampolining is set to be the fastest-growing fitness trend in 2020.

“People think of trampoline parks as just for kids” says Jo. “But I wanted to take things to the next level. I run a whole fitness schedule from Rush with yoga, pilates, and cycling classes as well as disco aerobics HIIT training on the tramploines. We have women coming in before heading off to work in the City for the day, or coming to evening classes once they’ve finished work.”

Here are Jo’s reasons why all Belles need to take up trampolining in 2020.

  1. Trampolining is non weight-bearing meaning it is unlikely to aggravate historical aches or injuries.
  2. You don’t need to learn how to do it. Most sports require a level of fitness or technique even to start, but bouncing is so easy almost anyone can do it.
  3. Jumping releases endorphins! Jumping is just fun, and has been proven to release happy hormones as you do it.
  4. Exercising on a trampoline increases bone density – it has been scientifically proven that jumping 20 times a day anywhere on any surface provides greater bone-building benefits than running or jogging.
  5. Trampolining stimulates constant core engagement without effort. Say goodbye to stressful sit-ups, you’ll do more good in a ten minute bounce, and you won’t ache after either!
  6. You get a full-body aerobic workout without the exhaustion. The beauty is that trampolining is hard work, but it’s effortless at the same time!
  7. Jumping also helps to cleanse and detoxify through the lymphatic system.

Jo is launching her #Jump2020 challenge on New Year’s Day, encouraging Belle readers to do 20 jumps a day, anywhere with anyone, and 20 reps, even if it’s just lifting a can of baked beans 20 times while making tea! Follow her on social media @joedwardsfitness or click here to get involved!
