According to new data, Brussels sprouts are shaking off their festive-only reputation as more Brits embrace the versatile vegetable throughout the year.

A survey conducted by HelloFresh reveals that nearly a quarter of the UK loves Brussels sprouts, with over half (52%) enjoying them outside of Christmas. While traditionally a December staple, superfood sprouts are now being welcomed into kitchens for January and beyond, especially by older generations.

HelloFresh’s data shows that people aged 65+ rate their sprout love at 7.4 out of 10 on average, while those aged 55-64 score close behind at 7.2. Among the regions, the South West leads in year-round sprout enjoyment, with 60% of residents cooking up the greens outside of the festive season.

Moving into the new year, Brussels sprouts are the perfect addition to healthy, hearty meals. Packed with nutrients, they’re low in calories and high in fibre, making them ideal for those tackling their new year wellness goals.

Mimi Morley, Senior Recipe Development Manager at HelloFresh, says: “Brussels sprouts are incredibly versatile and can be enjoyed in so many ways beyond Christmas. January is the perfect time to experiment with this nutritious veg, whether in a vibrant salad, a warming stir-fry, or even as a crispy topping for soups.”
