Review: We Love Brunch with Lanique
I remember that day as if it was yesterday. It was a beautiful, end of summer morning, clear blue skies and sunshine with temperatures soaring way above the average for the time of the year. It was a perfect day to celebrate the end of season with a few cheeky drinks, if you ask me.
A friend and I met at London’s South Bank and headed to the Mondrian Hotel for exactly that – an “End of Summer 17”’ event with Love Brunch Summer Series. We were excited to be heading to a day party in the stunning Rumpus Room of the Mondrian Hotel, probably the most beautiful hotel lobby I have ever set foot in.
The Rumpus Room was a wondrous space, with plenty of plush seating and lot of plants giving it a real botanical feel. The room was filled with sunshine and natural light, and as guest started to arrive, they gravitated towards the beautiful terrace to make the most of the sunshine. It really was the perfect spot for ‘selfies’ – the river Thames glistening in the sun, with St Paul’s Cathedral standing proud in the background, amongst the city’s slick architecture. It truly was breath-taking!
Now back to the brunch part. Which, confusingly enough, really wasn’t what one imagines upon hearing the magical word… The word ‘brunch’ in the subject caused a little confusion for my friend and I. We arrived thinking of ‘Eggs Benedict’ and ‘Pancakes’, but saw none of that. Instead, we were offered a glass of bubbly, bowls of tasty fries and different varieties of bruschetta – still, one can’t complain with those views!
More than anything, the event was a party in every sense. The room started to fill up with very dressed up looking crowd ready for some fun. Drinks were flowing and the DJ made sure everyone stayed in high spirits.
We stayed for a few drinks after all. We opted for Lanique – a delicious rose-infused spirit, which up until the 20s, was “the drink of choice for the wealthy elite across Europe”. It was my first time trying Lanique and I could see its appeal (and see how easy it would have been for my day to turn into night).
We left graciously before getting too merry. I had a date that evening and figured it wouldn’t have been the best first impression otherwise.
I loved the Rumpus Room so much that we did indeed return that same evening for a few glasses of champagne and a view we still talk about to this day. I think Rumpus Room might have established itself as my anniversary place and we shall be returning annually, at least.
