While most of us will admit to eating and drinking more during lockdown, have you wondered exactly how many more calories you’re consuming now we’re all stuck at home?

According to a new survey from cash savings service Raisin.co.uk, we’re actually consuming an extra 333 ‘lockdown calories’ each day – that’s 2,331 a week.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, no matter how good our intentions are when it comes to booze, the average Brit is consuming three alcoholic drinks a day.

The poll of 2,000 British adults also lifted the lid on some of our favourite snacks and other insights into our eating. Apparently, the most popular lockdown snack is cheese on toast (22%), followed by crisps (21%), bacon sandwiches (19%), chocolate cake (19%) and cheese and crackers (18%).

We’re also eating earlier apparently, at 6.35pm, according to the survey, and are consuming an average of three cups of tea and three cups of coffee.

Away from food and drink, we’re spending an average of five hours a day online and we’re also enjoying more sleep, getting out of bed at 8:40am – compared to 7.45am when lockdown began.

According to the poll, during a typical day we’ll watch an average of 4.5 hours of TV and spend five hours sitting on the sofa,  and we’ll load and unload the dishwasher three times. On top of that, in an average week we will put on four loads of washing, clean the bathroom three times and hoover four times.

There will also be two family arguments and when it comes to arguments in each household, nearly a quarter of us (24%) admitted arguing over silly things we wouldn’t usually disagree on, someone slacking off on the cleaning and chores around the house (20%), what to watch on TV (18%) and people being too noisy.

Despite that, three quarters of us (65%) admit we’re grateful to be  self-isolating with others, with 27% confessing it can be challenging at times.

When it comes to what we miss most about life before lockdown, almost half of us (48%) miss being able to see friends and family, 35% can’t wait for a holiday, 38% want to go shopping and 35% miss going for coffee or drinks with loved ones.

Kevin Mountford, co-founder for Raisin.co.uk, said: “It’s safe to say that it’s been a turbulent few weeks for the nation, with more testing times ahead.

“And while time in lockdown has seen some negatives, with plenty of us admitting to tensions running high with additional arguments with family members, extra snacking and plenty of time online.

“It’s extremely encouraging to see the positive aspects people are doing with their extra time; whether taking up a new hobby or finally getting around to organising our finances and getting into better habits when it comes to our money in general.”
