Medieval Sleepovers at Warwick Castle
Ever wondered what it was like to live as royalty during Medieval times?
We decided to experience it for ourselves at Warwick Castle’s unique Medieval sleepover set inside the castle’s picturesque and expansive grounds.
Prepare to be transported back in time and stroll through the ancient castle surround by actors dressed as knights, dine at a scrumptious medieval banquet and even try your hand at sword fighting. Each short break include two days’ admission so you can explore the spectacular castle and grounds as well as enjoy the daily shows and attractions that bring history vividly to life.
Accommodation: There is a range of options from glamping tents, the Knight’s Lodge, and luxury suites inside the castle’s 14th century tower.
We were invited to stay in the cosy Woodland Lodge which sleeps up to five people plus space for a baby in a cot. It features a double bedroom, with 2 bunks and an optional truckle bed. Each lodge is medieval-themed, ours had an archery artwork display, medieval style beds and even a wall tapestry. There are all the modern amenities you’d expect from a hotel including free wi-fi. Each lodge also boasts its own terrace.
Top tip: Enjoy free soft and hot drinks at the restaurant attached to the 24-hour reception.
Food: Mealtimes are a joy at the Knight’s Village as you dine onsite in the exclusive Medieval Dinner Hall. Breakfast is included, but the evening three course dinner is £19.95 per adult and £13.96 per child. This is also served in the Medieval Dinner Hall, and it is well worth the extra cost as it features a live show. We enjoyed our dinner entranced as actors played out the legend of the infamous ‘Black Knight’ of Warwick Castle.
Top tip: Book meal times as soon as you arrive to ensure you don’t miss out.
Warwick Castle: One night at The Knight’s Village gives you access to two-days at Warwick Castle, which boasts more than 1,100 years of jaw-dropping history, myth and adventure. The landmark is packed with so many things to do, inside and out, including a chance to explore the battlements, towers, turrets, and awesome interiors including the impressive Great Hall. There are also many interactive attractions and walk-through adventures including the new Horrible Histories Maze. If you’re brave enough and also over 10-years-old then you can witness some of the darkest, bloodiest and most frightening times in the Castle’s history at The Castle Dungeon attraction. This is based around the dungeon, which dates back to 1345, when Warwick was gripped by the plague. This exciting 50-minute walkthrough experience brings together live actors, shows and spectacular special effects.
Visitors can also have a go at sword fighting and archery to really get into the medieval atmosphere. But the star attraction is the falconry show. In the summer, the castle runs the UK’s largest birds of prey show, The Falconer’s Quest. During the colder months it puts on the Winter Birds of Prey Show, where you can get close to vultures and owls flying from the castle ramparts.
Top tip: The times of daily shows changes on a regular bases, so log onto the website to see what is on offer on the days you decide to visit.
