The big guns in Milan and Paris finished off the Autumn/Winter 2012 Ready To Wear collections with dark looks for the fall season.
After a strong showing in New York last week, London had a lot to live up to with its AW fashion week, particularly with eyes on the capital due to the Olympics and the Queen’s diamond jubilee. And it more than delivered with spectacular showings from the old guard including Stella McCartney, Burberry, Sarah Burton for McQueen, Mulberry and Nicole Farhi.
New York fashion week had a nostalgic edge for the fall season this year. Designers took their inspiration from bygone eras with screen siren gowns, military tailoring, the nipped in waists of the forties silhouette and sharp suiting featuring pinstripping, strong shoulders and heavy fabrics. It also saw the return of the little black dress in alnost every guise.
It’s the time of the year where you can show your beau just how much he means to you and hopefully he knows you well enough to buy you a gift that you too will treasure this Valentine’s Day. 
Designers once again looked to times past as old-fashioned glamour featured heavily on the catwalks at Paris Couture Spring 2012. From Givenchy’s roaring 20s long lines to the womanly silhouettes of the 40s and 50s at Christian Dior. British designer Bill Gaytten has filled the hole that John Galliano left at fashion house Dior with his unceremonious exit last year. Gaytten’s creations were a nod to Hollywood’s golden era and Dior’s own ‘New Look’ from the late 40s, which he must hope will cement him as the lead creative designer for Dior rather than be replaced with a new big-name designer brought in.
