Trends from New York Fashion Week SS15

NY SS15 MainNew York once again kicked off the main SS15 fashion weeks last week but just what can we take from the stunning designs strutting down the runways?

There were the usual gorgeous  red-carpet gowns from Badgley Mischka, Jenny Packham, Oscar De La Renta, Ralph Lauren, Reem Acra and Versus Versace. Flat shoes continue to be popular with trainers being prevalent as well as brogues. For heels, the delicate strappy sandal with ankle strap will be popular next summer. There was also a return of the obi belt to accentuate the waist  and bags that match outfits were popular too. There also seemed to be a return to natural hair and make-up.

Here are the nine trends that we picked out from New York Fashion Week for Spring Summer 2015…

Bandeau

NY SS15 BandeauBandeau tops were seen all over the catwalks whether they were over clothes, under layers or on their own. The best examples can be seen at Alexander Wang, Badgley Mischka, Diane Von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, Jill Stuart, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors.

White Out

NY SS15 WhiteWhite has become synonymous with summer and it was seen in abundance on the runways of New York fashion week. This year it is all about layering white over white for a fresh look. Get inspiration from BCBG Max Azria, Carolina Herrera, Edun, Michael Kors, DKNY and Victoria Beckham.

Safari

NY SS15 SafariThe safari suit got a makeover this season with numerous designers deconstructing the original for a softer yet still utilitarian look. Jason Wu, Zimmerman, Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Versus Versace and Victoria Beckham.

Nude

NY SS15 NudeSoft neutral shades from light caramels and peaches to fawns and clotted creams were paraded on the catwalks of Badgley Mischka, Herve Leger by Max Azria, Jill Stuart, Juan Carlos Obando and Victoria Beckham.

Fifties Silhouette

NY SS15 FiftiesDesigners interpretation of Dior’s classic New Look brought ladylike sophistication to the forefront for spring summer 2015. DKNY, Donna Karan, Jenny Packham, Michael Kors and Monica Lhullier show how elegant necklines, long skirts and a defining waist can be a winning look.

White Lace

Delicate white lace dresses were seen at Betsey Johnson, Michael Kors, Oscar De La Renta, Pamella Roland and Rebecca Minkoff shows. While the shapes and style differed the colour was the same

Botanicals

Prints had a horticultural feel with flower, plants and even birds featuring heavily. The best examples were from Carolina Herrera, Jenny Packham, Oscar De La Renta, Dennis Basso, Karen Walker and finally two from Vivienne Tam.

Soft Tailoring

Loose relaxed shapes with little embellishment or seaming is something that once again will be popular in SS15. Simple was best at Calvin Klein, Halston Heritage,  TSE, Narciso Rodriguez, Pamella Roland and Rag and Bone.

Check mate

NY SS15 ChecksGingham was popular this year on the runways of Lela Rose, Michael Kors, Altuzarra, Oscar De La Renta, Wes Gordon and Diane Von Furstenberg. Don’t worry about the style or colour of the check, just make sure you get a check into your SS15 wardrobe.
