Windsor Great Park Illuminated
Windsor Great Park Illuminated is a spectacular light show set, basically, in the Queen’s back garden.
Belle About Town was invited to the latest must-see Christmas experience, which boasts a magical display with dazzling lights, dancing stars and breath-taking projections. Our reporter Aamina Zafar went to experience the attraction to investigate what you too can expect if you embark on this dazzling journey.
The Blurb: For the very first time, Windsor Great Park is hosting a light show this winter. The magical walk will dazzle visitors as they encounter a dreamlike laser-scape, are wowed by a cathedral of light, and are dazzled by a hologram of mythical creatures.
Wrap up warm as you make your way through the outdoor trail, which has lots of cosy rest spots to enjoy mouthwatering food, mulled wine and hot chocolate. Visitors can even toast marshmallows on a fire pit.
The reality: When we first spotted selfies from this light show flooding my Instagram feed, we assumed everyone had been to Kew Garden’s famous Christmas light display. But a closer look revealed that the snaps were actually taken at Windsor Great Park. So, armed with a camera, we headed down in the hope of capturing a seasonal selfie or two.
This outdoor light show is the perfect way to ring in the festive period. It oozes Christmas charm from the moment you take your first step on the trail, with carols playing to get visitors in the festive mood.
There are two different routes you can take. The longer one takes just over an hour to complete and clocks up more than 6000 steps. If you prefer a shorter walk you can take a shortcut along the regular route. This reduces the experience time to around 45 minutes.
Along the way, you will pass multi-coloured flowers, a gigantic sculpture of a Christmas present gift, a hot air balloon, a snowman and many more.
Best Bit: The must-see attraction at the light display is the dreamlike laser-scape that has been created amongst the trees. As we walked towards the attraction we first thought there may be millions of dancing fireflies buzzing through the forest. The ‘fireflies’ are actually beams of green laser that moved serenely through the crowds. It is utterly magical.
Info: Entry starts from £21.45 for adults and £13.20 for children. Family tickets are available from £57. Car park costs £7.70 per car. Prices vary depending on what day you select, so check the website for more information.
