Book and Brunch at Lowndes Bar & Kitchen

If your idea of a relaxing Sunday is to have your nose stuck in a book, or indulge in a delicious brunch, then, be sure to check out Lowndes Bar & Kitchen in Belgravia. The restaurant is based inside the very swish Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel and has launched its new Book and Brunch Sundays. Visitors can enjoy the restaurant’s new brunch menu with bottomless tea or coffee, fresh juice and a new paperback specially selected by nearby Belgravia Books.

I popped in to see what all the fuss is about and can confirm it lives up to the hype. As soon as I walked in, I was impressed by the friendly and attentive staff. I took my 4-year-old son along with me. Often, posh London hotels can have a snooty attitude towards kids, but the staff here were the complete opposite, and helped my son feel very comfortable. This is handy to know, especially if you like to enjoy brunch with family and friends – and that often means eating out with little ones.

Lowndes Bar & Kitchen happily accommodates all ages of visitor, and has a great atmosphere. The décor is chic and modern and the ambience is relaxed. We sat near the large windows, which is the perfect spot to relax and see the world go by. I was treated to Julian Fellowes’ latest novel, Belgravia, as I was seated. Written by the creator of Downton Abbey the book takes readers back to the establishment of London’s grandest postcode. We soon got our tastebuds flowing with a choice starters which include coconut milk porridge with blueberries; maple syrup granola with yoghurt and blackberries; or a fresh fruit platter. I opted for granola – and loved that it was crunchy, delicious and a great kick start to a leisurely morning.

Following the first course, guests are able to choose from a range of hot dishes. I would recommend the poached eggs with smashed avocado and chilli on toasted sour dough, which is simple and flavourful. The portion size is just right. I felt full without feeling as though I had overindulged and needed to hit the gym instantly to burn off the treats I had just devoured. Other options include caramelised vegetable and chorizo frittata with courgettes, red onions, feta cheese and spicy chorizo sausage; and brioche French toast with sautéed bananas, caramel sauce and Cornish clotted cream.

The Book and Brunch Sunday set menu at Lowndes Bar & Kitchen is served from 12pm to 5pm and costs £30 per person. Brunch dishes are also available a la carte. For those wishing to treat themselves or make a special occasion of it, a Bottomless Bubbles option can be added for £15 per person.
