Humanitarian Clooney to wed?
The internet has been rife with rumours that George Clooney is to marry girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis as early as Thursday next week. Speculation centres on a marquee that has been put up at his villa in Lake Como and gossip that Elisabetta has taken delivery of a Roberto Cavalli wedding dress. The eternal bachelor, who was married to actress Talia Balsam for four years in the early 90s, has vowed in the past that he wouldn’t marry again. Nicole Kidman and Michelle Pfeiffer both bet him $10,000 that he would be married with kids by the time he was 40. While the pair paid out when they lost that bet, Hollywood beauty Michelle Pfeiffer revealed that Clooney upped the bet to $100,000 saying he will never get married. So is he about to lose that bet?
Meanwhile, it has been announced that George is to receive a humanitarian award at this year’s Emmy Awards. The Hollywood actor is being honoured for his Hope for Haiti benefit. “George was an obvious choice for this honor,” said TV Academy’s Chairman and CEO John Shaffner in a statement. “He has understood and harnessed the power of television, the most powerful medium of our time, to reach into the hearts of people around the world and compelled us to action on behalf of those in sudden and desperate need as well those tragically oppressed in Darfur.”
Brit actor Orlando Bloom, 33, and his Aussie model girlfriend Miranda Kerr, 27, have wed in a small secret ceremony in Los Angeles. The wedding only came to light after the Victoria’s Secret model had to pull out of an appearance at Australian department store David Jones. In a statement, Kerr said: “We have been trying to plan this for some time and unfortunately the only window of opportunity for our honeymoon fell at the same time as the David Jones fashion launch. David Jones very graciously released me during this period so we could celebrate an intimate ceremony and honeymoon together.” The glamorous couple started dating in 2007 and had only announced their engagement last month.
Christina Applegate expecting first child
Congratulations to Christina Applegate, 38, who is expecting her first child with musician fiancé Martyn Lenoble, 41. The couple, who got engaged on Valentine’s Day, have been together for two years and Christina credits Martyn with supporting her through her fight with breast cancer. “I have a small but mighty support system and Martyn has really been an incredible part of my life,” Applegate previously told Us Magazine. “Without him, I don’t know if I could’ve gone through any of it. He came around at a time when there was a lot of loss in my life on many levels, so he’s been a really incredible help.” The Samantha Who? actress was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago and decided to have a double mastectomy to ensure that there was no chance of the cancer coming back.
Jennifer puts stalker hell behind her to launch fragrance
Jennifer Aniston was in London this week to launch her new perfume at Harrods. As we reported in April, the actress stripped off for the promotional posters for her perfume, which was originally reported to be called Lolavie, but has been renamed Jennifer Aniston – The Debut Fragrance. It was probably a welcome distraction for Jen who has just been granted a restraining order against a violent and disturbed stalker who believed he was in a relationship the actress. Jayson Peyton, 24, was discovered last week at her Hollywood Hills home carrying a sharp object, duct tape and love letters to the actress, whom he wanted to marry. “Mr Peyton has aggressively sought to have personal contact with me and integrate himself into my life… His ongoing, ever-increasing, aggressive and harassing conduct are extremely distressing. I fear for my personal safety and that of those around me,” Jennifer said in signed court documents.
Brad and Angie in the family way
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have put paid to reports that their relationship had hit the rocks by suing a British tabloid for saying that the couple were splitting up. London’s High Court judge Mr Justice Eady awarded the couple damages from News Group Newspapers which will be donated to the Jolie-Pitt Foundation. The actress also revealed in People magazine this week about how supportive the Hollywood hunk and father to their six children is. “Brad’s an extraordinary father,” Jolie, 35, told People magazine. “We have each other’s backs.” And it was a family affair at the premiere of Angie’s latest movie Salt too as her brother James Haven and father Jon Voight joined couple at the premiere in Los Angeles.
Tom and Cameron’s need for speed!
BBC’s Top Gear is a hugely popular show both in the UK and abroad (no we don’t get it either) and now A-list petrol-heads Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are set to appear in the cult show to compete against each other for the fastest lap in a Kia Cee’d. The pair decided to take on the ‘star in a reasonably priced car’ challenge after coming to the UK to promote their latest movie Knight and Day that premiered in Leicester Square last night. The lap record on the show is currently held by 21-year-old actor Rupert Grint, who stars in the Harry Potter films. We’ll finally see if Tom still has the need for speed or whether his adrenaline-junkie co-star out performs him on the track.
