What’s happened to us? Each summer, more and more festivals spring up all over the country. What’s more, they display an amazing level of diversity and originality. Here Lola Borg from Reader’s Digest picked out some of the best:

There is nothing worse than spending New Years Eve at a heaving overpriced nightclub filled with sweaty drunken clubbers who are determined to get their midnight kiss whether you want it or not. No, for us a sophisticated soiree enjoying fabulous food, unusual entertainment and of course bubbles, with like-minded people is what we want.
It’s the season for frivolity and fun and we’re always looking for great nights out so when we heard there was a night that combined music, fashion, folly and performance art, we were keen to be involved.
There is not enough old-fashioned glamour about in entertainment at the moment. While we love seeing the latest bands and going to festivals as much as the next person, there is something to be said for that sophisticated feel of the lounge clubs of the 40s and 50s. Women attired in stunning dresses reclining at tables and supping cocktails while impeccably turned-out men catch up on manly matters, both watching a big band belt out Rat Pack tunes.
For two exclusive nights, MOMO will host private performances of the Parisian duo The Two.
The Two were created seven years ago when band mates Ara Starck, daughter of designer Phillipe Starck,
and David Jarre, son of French composer Jean-Michel Jarre and British actress Charlotte Rambling, met in Paris. She was a painter and he was the magician but they weaved together their atypical career paths and began to create music using the magic of uncluttered melody and vocal harmony.
We love ice-cream, music festivals and British summer fairs and there is one festival that brings them all together, the Ben & Jerry’s Sundae festival.
On Thursday May 12th London’s favourite Club and Cabaret night the Kitsch Lounge Riot returns to the celebrated, sophisticated and intimate surrounds of Café de Paris to celebrate their 10th anniversary.
You may not notice art on a wall but you will certainly notice an absence of it. It can effect the mood of a room, making it brighter, more positive, warmer – reflecting the occupants personality. Buying contemporary and original art can brighten up your home and can be an expression of who you are but it is a very personal experience. While art can also be an excellent investment, it is always best to remember the adage of buy what you like and if it becomes more valuable that is great – but if it doesn’t you still have a piece on your wall that you love.
As summer comes to a close, sadly so too do the outdoor concerts and festivals. The one I tend to feel draws a conclusion on the season is the final night of The Proms with Proms in The Park. So it is with a twinge of sadness, though much anticipation that I prepare to go to Hyde Park for that final outdoor sing-along of 2010 this Saturday.
For as many reports that alcohol is bad for you there seems to be an equal number espousing its the health benefits. Now while we are not advocating binge drinking we are encouraged that indulging in the odd tipple can actually be good for us.
