What’s happened to us? Each summer, more and more festivals spring up all over the country. What’s more, they display an amazing level of diversity and originality. Here Lola Borg from Reader’s Digest picked out some of the best:

There is a new festival on the block and they are kicking off early. The-Hiff is the place to be for the last weekend in April. No it’s not some new fandangled dance the kids are doing, it’s the Henley International Film Festival and it’s perfect for sentences such as, “Oh, we’re off to The-Hiff this year.”
Artist Reece Jones was brought up in picturesque Norfolk, before studying for an MA at the Royal Academy Schools. His successes run from helping set up the project space Rockwell in Hackney, which ran until 2005 and showed the work of more than 120 artists to catching the eye of Charles Saatchi and teaching at the City & Guilds art school.
There is nothing worse than spending New Years Eve at a heaving overpriced nightclub filled with sweaty drunken clubbers who are determined to get their midnight kiss whether you want it or not. No, for us a sophisticated soiree enjoying fabulous food, unusual entertainment and of course bubbles, with like-minded people is what we want.
America may have Independence Day but over in the UK we are happy to remember that King James I survived the plot to blow him up at the Houses of Parliament lead by catholic reformist Guy Fawkes.
While the fashion pack descended on London last week for the prestigious London Fashion Week, being outside of London doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the trends, buzz and fashion events. The Bullring Centre in Birmingham is combining technology and fashion to present a fusion of reality and illusion to show you the top trends of AW11 with The Show: Redefinition. This unique catwalk experience will see models, including 2010 Britain’s Next Top Model winner Tiffany Pisani, strutting down the catwalk against holographic backgrounds – and they’re promising a kaleidoscope of colour, a real ice breaker and puppies, hundreds of them!

The UK has been a centre for filming and been a major influence on the industry over the years but to get a flavour of this ourselves we have had to go to Disneyland Paris or head over to Florida to see how the studios make their magic. Well soon we will be able to get a taste of this at home without becoming a runner for a film company.
