Album Review: The Awakening by James Morrison

Ah, James Morrison; he might only be in his mid-20s but he has the voice of wise, old soul legend and the same cosy, cuddle-up-in-front-of-the-fire-with-a-beloved (or beloved glass of wine)-quality songs. He doesn’t exactly tear up the rule book here: big, heartfelt ballads dominate, as with the gorgeous In My Dreams, and the Jessie J-featuring Up, on which the Essex lass thankfully refrains from bawling at the top of her lungs.
Album Review: Hard To Find
[Saint Etienne]
For some reason buying a compilation album doesn’t seem very ‘adult’.
The words bring to mind those brightly coloured Now 79 (*insert number here*) albums you got as a kid at Christmas, teeny R&B discs or those naff woman-themed collections they sell in Asda every Mother’s Day.
However, Hard To Find is the compilation album’s saviour, single-handedly taking its faded image and polishing it up into something shiny and lovely.
Album Review: Torches by Foster The People
If you’ve been anywhere near a radio this summer, you’ll have heard Foster The People’s Pumped Up Kicks (hear it below). It’s that sweet, summery dance song that sounds a little like MGMT before they became all alternative and unlistenable.
Parading A New Sound
There’s a new girlband on the block who can sing; aren’t divas, get on well with each other and haven’t all got honeyed highlights. Such an entity doesn’t exist! Well, actually, it does in the form of Parade, the latest girlband on the block who are on the cusp of big things.
What The Celebrities Have On Their iPods
There are songs that remind us of our first kiss, our favourite summer, a great night out with the girls, even a walk down the aisle; and it’s no different for the rich and famous. And while many of them may have dated, married or befriended most of their iPod – it’s still holds true. Celebrities love music just like the rest of us. Here are what some A-listers are listening to on their iPods:
Glee’s musical turn
Glee‘s Disney-eque cast album might not be everyone’s cup of tea but one thing that Glee creator Ryan Murphy does well is choose some choice tunes for the cast to sing and dance up a storm.
Paloma Faith: Truth and Beauty

This new London singer seems to be a cross between the soulful depth of voice of Amy Winehouse with the retro feel of Duffy. Her sense of performance comes from her background on burlesque and although she doesn’t quite challenge Lady Gaga for this crown, she does add a theatrical edge that is reminiscent of Dita Von Teese and adds colourful storybook visuals of the 1950s.

Belle About Town is for the woman who is time deprived but style rich.
