What’s Your Daily Dose?

A Guide to Supplements According to your Age

What's your daily dose? Supplements you should be taking according to your age.

What ourbodies demand differs as we age. The energy needed in our 20s can be superceded by a need for more nouridhing supplements in our 30s, and added vitamins to support our bones and immune systems as we progress into our 40s and 50s. Belle About Town consulted Lee and Daniel Robertshaw, founders of supplement company
togetherhealth.co.uk to find out exactly what our daily dose should eb, depending on our age and lifestyle. Here’s what they told us…

20s

In our 20’s our aim is to say yes to as many things as we can, and this requires an abundance of energy and fast acting repair systems!

Extra B vitamins, Vitamin C and a general woman multi can be the key. Allowing us to ‘keep on going’ reaching our goals and protecting against the inevitable burning of the candle at both ends. A great time to optimise glow, with a hair, skin and nail supplement, why not shine your brightest. Do not forget mid twenties is the cut off for calcium storing in our bones, which has to last us through to old age, so make sure you reach your potential and keep and eye on calcium sources in the diet.

30s

With the extra confidence acquired from getting through our 20’s and a increased sense of self knowing, these new accomplishments  also come along with some new challenges. We struggle to rebound as quickly, hangovers seem to get worse and and expression lines seem to last a little longer then the expression.

This is when taking time to nourish our reserves pays off, choose happy hormone boosting herbs such as Shisandra and Ashwahganda to support the juggling of tasks and a good quality hair, skin and nail formulation to keep the youthful glow going.

Keep switched on, meet that deadline and get that promotion with the help of brain caring omega 3 and energy boosting COQ10.

40s

In our 40’s it seems habits become more set in stone, some can be enhancing whilst others we could do with leaving in our 30’s! This is when we benefit most from regular MOT’s, keeping on top of any cracks that begin to appear. Often we notice our joints begin to talk to us,  and our sleeping patterns can become bit more chaotic as energy levels seem less steady.

Inflammation can be a real driver in the ageing process, reign it in with what is known as the ‘golden root’ Tumeric, part of the ginger family, a natural pain killer and damage fighter.

50s

Reaching a mid century is an achievement in it’s self, but does it mean mid life nutrient crisis? Maybe not that extreme, but most certainly a mixture of wear and tear and the hormone whirlwind during the big M can lead to an imbalance in the both the body and mind.

Underpin these changes with some extra nutrients and helpful herbs, to work to take the brunt off whilst aiming to soothe the mind. Keeping our bodies moving and flexible is a key goal as we head into the late 50’s, our joints love Boswelia and Curcumin  as they boost circulation and reduce inflammation, a key driver of ageing and pusher for early onset of chronic disease. Vitamin D and calcium are a perfect combo to reduce the strain on our skeleton, as bone loss accelerates during your 50s, especially among women, since oestrogen helps maintain bone mass, which drops after menopause. After years of working hard to pump our blood around, the heart could benefit from some healthy fats, boost your intake of  omega 3 in particular, cold pressed algae caps are a great vegan source,  who can argue when it has been shown that increasing intakes can protect against ongoing damage, repair past deterioration whilst supporting many other parts of the body.
