Valentino for Gap is back!

Ageless basics and heritage couture do not often sit side by side, but in this high street/designer collaboration this is precisely what we are getting with a partnership between Valentino and Gap.

What do you think of when you think of Valentino? Red. Yet, Valentino is also about beautifully crafted ruffles, folds, drapes, and above all, womanliness. The seven piece capsule collection designed by Valentino’s Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli is a deluxe take on what Gap does best. The basics every girl needs and wants in her wardrobe mixed with their own house skills.

Thus you will find a utilitarian parka in Gap-friendly khaki has been styled in three different ways – a jacket, a long-length style and a cropped blouson, each with theatrical three-dimensional frills and flourishes. A similar usage has been applied to a pair of cargo pants and a knee length skirt, with the addition of bows and tiers. Also among the collection is a classic grey marl jersey t-shirt (£49.95) with a signature Valentino bow and a hoody sweatshirt (£59.95). Chiuri and Piccioli summed up their collection, stating, “It brings together the iconic world of Valentino and Gap’s fashion staples, synthesizing the current trend of combining luxury with basics.”

When it first went on sale last week, it sold out in two and a half hours but if you missed out we have a secret to tell you. You don’t have to pay over double the price to pick it up on eBay, because a little mouse at Gap HQ told us that new stock is arriving next week. The collection is available to buy from Gap’s store in Dover Street Market and the Gap flagship Oxford Street store in London.
