Sunday Recovery With Our/London

Bottle serve 7

Traditionally for me, Sundays have always been reserved for recuperating and resting, getting myself prepared for the week ahead. I usually start the day with a coffee and a morning walk, have lunch or if I can help it, transform myself into a ‘couch potato’ for the day. This Sunday was a little different. It all started with the previous evening’s visit to the cinema for the new Absolutely Fabulous movie, which we enjoyed very much as well as a couple glasses of bubbly (mandatory for this movie). We just made it back for the Euro match and more bubbly followed. Needles to say, I felt a little tired the next morning.

The thought of another drink wasn’t appealing at all, but the promise of RECOVER by Our/ London vodka distillery was perhaps just what we needed.

So after a slow start, my friend and I made our way to Hackney Central, the home of Our/ London. Here they hosted an afternoon called RECOVER – and it was exactly what it said on the ‘bottle’. A day filled with drinks, food, coffee, music and art, even a game of ping-pong for the competitive folks. The sun was out too – a rare moment these days in London.

The entrance to the venue was filled with people enjoying drinks and indulging in delights from Sub Cult, a food track parked up at the front. It was serving deliciously looking gourmet subs, including meat, fish and veggie options.

Ed Hicks – a British artist, was recreating the distillery’s walls into an art exhibition in real time as we entered.

We headed to the busy bar where DJ HAAi was spinning soul and funk tunes, perfect for a Sunday afternoon. We weren’t sure what to order, so we followed the bartender’s recommendation and started with a “Cold Brew Tonic”. It was a drink consisting of Our/ London vodka, a shot of Goodbeans cold brew coffee, tonic and an orange twist. Rather intriguing, and surprisingly tasty and refreshing.

So much so that I was ready to taste one more – a Bloody Mary. I have tried it once before and failed miserably (but that’s another story) and I was ready to try again. It was perfectly prepared using Our/ London vodka, Pickle House Mary mix and a slice of cucumber. I think I might just be a Bloody Mary convert.

After feeling rather recovered, we sadly headed home. I have a feeling that my Sundays will never be the same again.
