March Food News with Eat with Ellen

I’m late, I’m late, for a most important date. That’s basically me – always. We’ve already missed the first week of March folks, and for that I apologise. I would like to say it was down to me perfecting my perfect Pancake Day recipe for days on end but alas, nothing that exciting.

Needless to say, there’s plenty more coming up in March that you still have time to get involved in. You might also want to start planning any Mother’s Day treats as they’ll undoubtedly get booked up quick. Everything from afternoon tea, lazy lunches, bottomless brunches and other food and drink-related delights are out there and far too many to list, but at Belle we’d love to hear what you decide to get up to.

In the meantime, here are some other things you can get up to in March.

New menu at Skylon

Skylon has been on my list for a while and they’ve just launched a brand new menu. Executive Chef Helena Puolakka arrived in September and is continuing to focus on innovative British cuisine featuring produce from around the UK.

Starters include slow cooked Chichester wood pigeon, North Atlantic halibut carpaccio and the Cobble Lane Cured charcuterie platter, featuring the highest welfare British meats cut, cured and smoked in Cobble Lane Cured shop in Islington.

Main courses range from classic comfort food like Pot au Feu of Ox cheeks to grill options like Rib Eye Steak as well as sharing dishes like Highland venison wellington and Chateaubriand.

Casual dining options at lunchtime include Chef’s steak sandwich and Dorset crab roll while desserts cover British classics like Sticky toffee pudding and Burnt lemon meringue tart.

All that against the backdrop of spectacular views over the Thames from the restaurant on the first floor of the Royal Festival Hall. No wonder it’s still on my list.

London Dog Week with M Restaurants

Okay, as a dog mum myself I can’t resist this. From March 24-30 M restaurant are partnering with London Dog Week for a series of events focused on your four-legged friend.

They include Fur-Mamma’s Day on Sunday, March 24 which will see M Victoria transformed into a pamper lounge offering grooming sessions, ‘pawsome’ pedicures, massages for dog and owner, glass of Prosecco/Pawsecco and Sunday lunch in the restaurant.

There’s also a Sausage Dog celebration as well as a Fashion Brunch on March 30, with pooches modelling doggy designs on the runway. For more information visit https://londondogweek.com/

NEW OPENINGS

Bob Bob Cité – the spin-off of Bob Bob Ricard – finally opens this month in the Leadenhall Building (AKA the Cheesegrater). It’ll feed 190 covers with a menu designed by Michelin-starred chef Eric Chavot and the popular Champagne buttons that have made Bob Bob Ricard will also be there too.

144 ON THE HILL

Okay so it’s not happening until April, but you can start making plans now. Independent restaurant and bar 144 ON THE HILL is opening on Richmond Hill, delivering ‘Turf to Table’ menus made with seasonal ingredients. There will be British classics and sharing plates that give a nod to the local area, including vegan and vegetarian options. There’s a cosy snug as well as a bar and lounge where you can enjoy live music, casual drinks and a selection of small plates.

Drinks-wise, there’s a carefully chosen wine list, expertly-made cocktails, beers and a bespoke mead menu.

Watch this space.
