Merchant Square’s Summer Of Fun

Merchant Square in Paddington has in recent years become a thriving canalside community. Towering office blocks form a barrier between the emerging area and the outside world. Restaurants and bars bring a lively energy to a formerly downtrodden part of London. And this summer the area promises to attract more visitors with a series of free events and activities on offer for workers, residents and visitors alike.

Sporting events such as Wimbledon and cult films, a pamper day, live music, fitness activities, and micropigs will even make an appearance. Floating Fitness will include yoga and pilates classes on the brand new Floating Pocket Park on the canal. The first of its kind, Floating Fitness will run for a whole week from Monday 12th June – Sunday 18th June. Foot Golf, a Dance Off, High Ropes, and Gladiators will also take place throughout the summer.

Merchant Square will be live streaming all of the Wimbledon matches on a giant outdoor screen on the lawn next to the canal, and drinks and snacks will be available throughout all the matches including Pimms and strawberries and cream. Sit back and relax on a deckchair or giant bean bag to watch the action.

There will also be pamper days, The Great British Seaside and even some floating music sessions.

The traditional Paddington Dragon Boat Regatta and Duck Race will take place on Thursday 20th July, where teams take to the water in their own Dragon Boat and race the length of the Merchant Square canal with the aim of being first past the finishing line, raising money for children’s charity COSMIC. Show your competitiveness by joining in the Paddington rubber duck race. Donate £3.00 to enter your duck and watch as they make their journey down the canal.

There’s plenty of al fresco dining to be enjoyed, as long as the weather holds out! So if you’re passing through Paddington this summer, or at a loose end one weekend, it’s worth checking out the What’s On page on the Merchant Square website.
