Get Set For Wimbledon

Wimbledon spiritWhether you’re spending July on Centre Court or dashing through Central London, restaurants across the Capital are serving up a selection of Wimbledon specials, sure to make you shout ‘love’ throughout the tournament (29 June – 12 July). So get your best whites on and make a (set) point of trying these!

drake morgan The Strawberry Fields cocktail is inspired by the great British tradition of strawberries and cream, famously served at southwest London’s treasured tournament and now served at each of the eight Drake & Morgan bars and restaurants, except The Refinery on Bankside. Hennessy cognac is shaken with freshly muddled strawberries, sweet gomme syrup and a couple of dashes of Peychaud’s Bitters for a fruity and refreshing sipper. The cocktail also comes served with a thimble of fresh cream and whole strawberries on the side for a sweet treat. Enjoy a tennis-inspired tipple this summer, whether propping up the bar with friends, clinking during dinner or enjoying a sun-soaked, al fresco lunch on the terrace with a drink in-hand.

Mixed doubles at Maze

After a day spent catching play courtside, retire to Michelin-starred maze in Mayfair for a championship-worthy mixed double of sushi and cocktails (£29), available as a special on the à la carte menu throughout the tournament. Enjoy a springtime serve of exceptionally fresh sushi with the aptly paired, limited-edition Strawberries and Cream mar-Tea-ni – combining strawberry-infused Finlandia vodka, freshly muddled strawberries and equal measures of milk and cream with a dash of homemade red fruit tea syrup. A selection of crab and cucumber Rainbow Rolls will come topped with sliced tuna, salmon and hamachi with garnishes of avocado, red pepper, rocket, cress, sesame seeds and a yuzu miso sauce.

The heart of the action at Beyrouths

Just in time for the world’s favourite tennis tournament Beyrouths Cafe will arrive in Wimbledon village with its famously fresh Middle-Eastern food available to sports fans, spectators and foodies alike. They’re also more than ready to serve a tennis superstar or two…  Everything is made onsite by hand, with nothing processed, brought in or pre-prepared. During the day there will be tasty wraps and abundant sharing mezzes, with the evening menu switching its focus to gorgeous grilled chicken and succulent lamb dishes. In keeping with the café vibe, a large selection of delightful Middle-Eastern and French Artisan pastries will be available alongside beautifully rich coffee and freshly-squeezed juices and smoothies. But it’s not just about the food… Beyrouths, at 82 High Street, Wimbledon Village, will provide an ambience that is irresistible on a hot, sunny day full of sporting action. With a comfortable and colourful interior, out front pavement seating and a totally blissful garden complete with its own sun trap. During the Wimbledon fortnight all of the tennis action will be shown at Beyrouths on a number of large screens, so fans are encouraged to create their own mini-Murray Mound and take advantage of the BYOB policy or pre-order from Lebanese wine selection. However, if you prefer something a little more refreshing then check out the Mixed Double offer… purchase a ‘Pink Lemonade’ (Strawberry and Freshly Squeezed Lemon) and your partner will get one free.

A racket at Rocket

Rocket pizzaRocket restaurants have created a limited edition “Rachetta” pizza especially for Wimbledon fortnight. Shaped like a tennis racket and complete with “calzone” crust handle this delicious, freshly-baked pizza stays true to the green courts of Wimbledon with scatterings of spinach along with mushrooms, tomatoes, creamy ricotta and Bocconcini (that’s mini mozzarella balls to you and me!) A homage to our very own Wimbledon Champion, The Murray Medlar combines freshly muddled strawberries with vanilla vodka, Fraise De Bois, Licor 43 and lemon juice.
