Holy crepe! Everyone’s gone flipping mad for pancakes this year (and bad puns too – it would seem). So we’ve whisked around the the Capital to find the best eateries offering up Shrove Tuesday specials. That’s the end of the puns now, we promise….

Christopher’s Buttermilk Pancakes have long been the most sought after item of the popular brunch menu, but this year for Pancake Day, the venue is taking things up a notch and providing pancake enthusiasts with the option of designing their own crepes on their very own tick box menu! Diners can choose from a freshly made base of Buttermilk, Buckwheat or Blueberry-Buttermilk pancake, followed by a decadent choice of toppings and ice-creams. Featuring staple classics (Maple-cured Bacon, Madagascan Vanilla) to the downright indulgent (Homemade Nutella, Salted Caramel ice-cream) and even some virtuous options for the health conscious (Mixed Berries, Matcha Green Tea, Coconut Yoghurt & Cinnamon Dust), the possibilities are endless. Finish with an essential drizzle of the classic Lemon and Honey,or mix it up with Blueberry Compote or Valrhona Chocolate SaucePancakes will cost £5 for the base with £1 or £2 per extra topping. The offer will be available all day on Tuesday (9th February) at the restaurant at 18 Wellington Street, Covent Garden.

Take your pick from a quartet of delicious fluffy flippers at Heddon Street Kitchen, served with your choice of fresh blueberries and maple syrup; caramelised banana and crispy smoked bacon; chocolate caramel and vanilla bean ice-cream; or white chocolate and fresh raspberry – all £7. At Bread Street Kitchen in the City, Head Chef Paul Shearing will be serving the popular banana pancakes from the brunch menu as a dessert special (£8) whilst Crêpes Suzette (£9), flambéed fabulously at the table, will also be on special. Likewise, in Limehouse, The Narrow Head Chef Gerald Mirey will also be serving his take on Crêpes Suzette (£7) throughout the day.

For the week leading up to Shrove Tuesday, pancake-lovers can indulge in an exclusive, dedicated menu of 7 luxurious pancakes, including the British Bacon Pancake, served with bacon, corn cream, maple syrup and a crisp green apple salad, at Lanes of London, set against unrivalled backdrops of Hyde Park and Marble Arch.

Ham Hock & Cider at Ask For Janice

Shrove Tuesday at all-day British eatery Ask For Janice promises to be a scrumptiously savoury affair. The Farringdon restaurant’s pancakes showcase delicious British ingredients and include the delicate Brixham Chilli Crab (£8.00), Ham Hock and Cider Apple (£7.00), as well as a Black Pudding and Fried Duck Egg option. (£7.00). 

Ultra-Indulgence at The Botanist

Lobster pancake BOTIt’s your last chance to indulge before Lent, so pep up your crêpe with chunks of fresh lobster, earthy mushrooms and creamy, smoked garlic bisque at The Botanist Sloane Square. This super-indulgent pancake (£32) is to be savoured rather than scoffed and is available for lunch and dinner this Shrove Tuesday. There’s also the Shorthorn fillet pancake ‘Wellington’ with seared foie gras, truffle and bone marrow sauce (£28).
All pancakes are available for lunch and dinner on Tuesday 9th February and they are worth every flippin’ calorie, pancake promise!
