Grain Brewery Summer Festival

Beer is not normally our tipple of choice but as Belle’s know, a gentle half-pint of a good cold lager or ale can be a refreshing beverage on a sunny afternoon. Add to that a summer country festival with a Darling Buds of May feel and we come over all wholesome and pick out our best milk-maid outfit and head out of the big smoke.

Grain brewery is holding its annual Summer Festival this Saturday within the scenic grounds of its home at South Farm, in the Waveney Valley area of Norfolk. The vintage-themed fair, now in its third year, will offer country-lovers a fun day of family entertainment. The brewhouse will be turned into a bar, stocking all of Grain’s nine real ale varieties and festival goers will be able to enjoy local folk band ‘Gipsy’ plus guests, traditionally made gourmet ice-creams from Waveney Ices, a barbecue, vintage fete games, and brewery tours on request. A small exhibition of watercolours by the farm owner will also be on display for visitors to view.

The Summer Festival also offers the chance for local producers to come together on one day to showcase their produce. One such producer present will be Jimmy Denny, selling burgers and sausages made with Norfolk-bred, local lambs fed on Grain’s leftover malt. And back by popular demand this year will be the Golden Star Morris dancers – maybe next year there will be some maypole dancers too?

A vintage 1950’s Bristol coach will be bringing regulars from The Plough – Grain’s own public house in Norwich, so they can see where their beer comes from.

Grain’s Joint Founder Phil Halls says: “We are again looking forward to our Summer Festival this year, which will be bigger and better than ever. We have a great group of local fans, and by hosting a festival we can all celebrate together.”
