Get Some Witchy Confidence This Halloween

Witch confidenceWho fancies being a witch this Halloween? An evil, haggard old woman, hunched over a bubbling cauldron, cooking up your latest wicked spell or potion. Not a very attractive image, right? So why would anyone want to be a witch?

Well actually, throughout history witch-hunts have been ways of targeting women who were a little bit different. Women who knew things others didn’t, like medical remedies, women who dared to challenge convention and embrace their individuality, and women who had the confidence to speak up for what they believed in. In fact, the whole wicked witch caricature reflects how powerful or wise women were put down in society, rather than celebrated.

So, maybe it is time to think about witches a bit differently, and celebrate the modern-day “witches” out there who dare to be unconventional and ambitious. Confidence Coaches Dannie-Lu Carr and Bec Howard aka The Good Witches of the North share their top tips to help you release your own inner witch so you can show the world quite how magic you really are:

A witch isn’t afraid to go out and get what she wants

One thing all witches have in common is drive and determination. They know what they want and they will do whatever it takes to get it. This kind of dedication is a quality that many of us admire, and we will happily applaud businesswomen, actresses or athletes when they reach their goals.

So why do so many of us go through life without such focus? In fact, many of us fall into the trap of focusing on what we DON’T want. By feeding our minds with negatives all day we’re forced to concentrate on what we don’t want to happen. Instead, say it the way you DO want it, in the positive, envisaging things going exactly the way you want them, and your mind will get busy finding solutions that will make it all happen for you.

A witch doesn’t worry about what people think of her

When was the last time you shied away from doing something you really wanted because of what people might think of you? Pressures and expectations can make us carry mental lists of things we feel we “ought” or “should” do to keep others happy, but you have the power to free yourself from the ones you don’t want any more.

Storybook witches certainly aren’t apologetic for their actions, and in fact many of us are guilty of letting the word “sorry” sap our own power. As a simple little trick, try replacing removing the word sorry from your vocabulary entirely for one week and you will notice a big difference in how empowered you feel.

A witch is true to herself

While being unapologetically different may have got many women pointed out as witches in the past, today it is the women who stay true to themselves who become the most inspirational leaders, artists and entertainers. Authenticity goes a long way, and trying to be someone you are not is exhausting, so don’t be afraid to just embrace who you really are and stand, walk and speak with confidence, comfortable in your own skin.

If ever you find yourself lacking in confidence and need to remind yourself how amazing you are, take a moment to think about your top three strengths or qualities – no need to be modest here. Say each one out loud three times, beginning with “I am…” and really envisage yourself owning those strengths. We are all unique and by focusing on what makes you so wonderful as an individual, your authenticity will pour out.

A witch doesn’t need anyone else to validate her

Witches are known for solidarity with their sisters, not desperately looking for a partner. Of course we’re not saying to rid yourself of all the romantic interests in your life – not at all – but your relationships shouldn’t define you, and you certainly shouldn’t focus on what you don’t have.

Concentrating on what we don’t have makes us smaller, shrinks our ambitions, makes us resentful and stops us being happy. Say thank you for all the things and people in your life that are good as you get ready every morning – it will leave you feeling positive and ready for whatever the day has to offer.

A witch can make magic happen

We’re not talking turning people into frogs here. What we refer to as “magic” is a simple formula of “intent + belief +action.” In other words, women who have the confidence and self-belief to take control and make things happen in the lives of themselves and others.

The underlying theme behind all these witch-like qualities is confidence. Confidence to be who you want to be, do what you want to do and make things happen, and that is something that we can all achieve with the right mindset – black cats, hats and cauldrons are strictly optional.
