Premier Bubbly At Icetank

ChampagneThe fever of the Spring Summer 2017 Fashion Week marathon may have slowly fizzled out in the four biggest trend-setting capitals but that’s no reason to put a cork back into the bottle just yet. In fact, I am convinced the celebratory cork popping is still echoing through Paris where the fashion elite gathered last, to swoon over what we’ll be wearing the next season. So with FOMO in mind, I headed to Icetank in Covent Garden for a premier sparkling evening of my own.

The pristine white and intimate interiors of Icetank were filled with the effervescence of the party people. And balloons. Lots and lots of floating white balloons. The bar was adorned with a macaroon pyramid installation, celebrating the classic colours of the sparkling wines: cream and pink.

The host of the evening, Premier Estates Winesmade sure everyone’s bubbles were the triple-award-winning kind. In the blink of an eye, a glass of their star Prosecco was handed to me. My companion opted for the ‘Strawberry Blonde’ aka Grand Rosé sparkling wine.

With the glasses full, we retreated to the table next to the digital photobooth and whilst watching some enthusiasts striking poses in silly hats and fizzing signs, we were keen to compare the tasting notes. I get disappointed by too much acidity in wine sometimes but tonight was not going to be sour. My Prosecco had just the right balance between light creaminess and zesty freshness with a dry yet refreshing finish. Tested with the canapés on offer at the event, this is definitely a food friendly sparkling wine delight. My friend’s Grand Rosé was bursting with fruity notes of strawberry, raspberry and cherry, with a crisp and dry finish.

My second visit to the bar for a refill proved even more adventurous. Whilst watching the female DJ spin the tunes on the other end, I was introduced to a ‘fruit caviar’, strawberry or peach juice-filled bubbles by PopaBall, which you can add to your fizzy drink for an extra fun flavour. However, I was feeling more decadent and instead of adding sweeter flavour to my bubbly, I popped a ‘Dark Sugars’ rose-shaped chocolate straight into my mouth and sipped on Prosecco. The combination of tastes was something else and certainly worth the experiment.

The evening was far too enjoyable and came to an end far too quickly. I enjoyed my Prosecco so much that I forgot to sample Premier Estate’s other multi-award-winning bestseller, Cava Brut! Armed with a cute Mini Prosecco bottle in my goodie bag, I walked into the night full of bubbles and satisfied the fear of missing out fizzled out yet again, with a little help of the quality fizz.
